Ammonium Bromide NH4Br is also known as ammonium salt of hydrobromic acid. The chemical crystallizes in colorless prisms and is characterized by a saline test. It sublimes on heating and is easily soluble in water. On exposure to air it generally assumes a yellow color due to oxidation traces of bromide (Br) to Bromine (Br2).

Ammonium Bromide is prepared by combining hydrogen bromide with ammonia. It can also be prepared by the reaction of ammonia with iron (II) bromide or iron (III) bromide which is obtained by passing the aqueous bromine solution over iron fillings.

Properties

As far as physical properties are concerned, Ammonium bromide is a weak acid which possesses a pKa of ~5 in water. It is an acid salt because ammonium ion hydrolyses slightly in water. Basically Ammonium Bromide is a strong electrolyte when it reacts with water. Ammonium bromide decomposes to ammonia and hydrogen bromide when it is heated at a high temperature.

Applications

Ammonium bromide is used in photography films, plates and papers for fireproofing the wood in process engraving and lithography. It is also used in various pharmaceutical operations.

Ammonium bromide is in high demand therefore Dhruv Chem manufactures it at its in-house laboratory. The chemical caters to the needs of several industries and is easily soluble in water and at par with international standards. The chemical is made with utmost accuracy and with high quality raw materials from well known vendors of the industry.
